Coquí Embroidered T-shirt
Coquí (Eleutherodactylus coqui)
Family: Eleutherodactylidae
The Coquí is a national symbol of Puerto Rico—and one of the loudest frogs on Earth, relative to its body size. Named after its iconic call that sounds like “co-KEE!”, this tree-dwelling frog belts out its two-note song all night long, using the first note to ward off rival males and the second to attract mates. Despite being just over an inch long, its call can reach over 100 decibels—as loud as a chainsaw. Unlike most frogs, the Coquí doesn’t have a tadpole stage. Its eggs hatch directly into fully formed froglets, allowing it to reproduce successfully without standing water.
